Her accumulated knowledge and skills are a result of her professional and the below academic experiences.
B.A. Urban Education (2008)
What is it?
The Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Learning is obtained upon completion of a four-year Integrated Elementary Subject Matter Preparation Program designed to prepare culturally sensitive teachers for assignments in hard-to-staff diverse urban elementary (K-6) or Special Education (K-12 or B-21) classrooms. The major combines courses in teacher preparation with major courses emphasizing an interdisciplinary approach to understanding urban learning as a social phenomenon. The major is supported by a depth area in the social sciences and is in preparation of either a Multiple Subject Credential (Elementary Education) or an Education Specialist (Special Education) Teaching Credential.
How is it used?
Knowledge and skills gained from this degree are used to design instruction, form assessment, and manage student behavior.
Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential (2008)
What is it?
A Multiple Subject Teaching credential is designed to be completed in two years and authorizes its holders to teach in a self-contained classroom such as the classrooms in most elementary schools. The state of California now requires that all teachers have this credential. A teacher authorized for multiple subject instruction may be assigned to teach in any classroom (preschool, K-12, or in classes organized primarily for adults). In addition, the holder of a Multiple Subject Teaching credential may serve in a core or team teaching setting.
How is it used?
It provides credentialing, training, and legal authorization to teach any student in Kindergarten through 12th grade. It is used to understand the foundations of how children learn and take tests. It is also used to understand alternative methods that help meet each student's individual learning style.
Special Education Teaching Credential (2009)
What is it?
The Education Specialist Instruction Credential: Mild/Moderate Disabilities is designed to completed in two years and authorizes the holder to conduct assessments, provide instruction, and provide special education related services to individuals with a primary disability of specific learning disabilities, mild/moderate mental retardation, other health impairment, emotional disturbance, and autism spectrum disorders within the disability area, in kindergarten, grades 1 through 12, and classes organized primarily for adults in services across the continuum of program options available.
How is it used?
A special education teacher is legally authorized to work with students who have a wide range of learning, cognitive, emotional, and physical disabilities. It is used to ensure that lessons and behavior interventions are tailored to meet each student's needs.
Post-baccalaureate degree in Autism (2011)
What is it?
This program is designed to be completed in one year and better prepares educators in establishing the unique behavioral and educational programs often required for students with autism and other pervasive developmental disorders.
How is it used?
This degree gives the information and legal authorization needed to obtain new resources and technologies for supporting students with autism in school and community settings. It provides the holder with an acquired depth of knowledge in understanding the needs of individuals with autism and the skills to address those needs.
Post-baccalaureate degree in Applied Behavior Analysis (2012)
What is it?
This degree is designed to be completed in one year and provides practitioners, such as school psychologists, counselors, resource and program specialists, administrators, and others who work with students and teachers, the opportunity to develop specialized skills to function as Behavior Intervention Case Managers.
How is it used?
This degree provides specialized skills for designing, implementing and evaluating applied behavior analysis programs in behavior management, motivation, teaching and consultation.
Masters of Arts in Special Education (2013)
What is it?
The Master of Arts degree in Special Education is designed to be completed in two years and provides administrators, teachers, and therapists with advanced preparation for work with exceptional learners. Master’s degree candidates must incorporate the specialist credential requirements in their area of specialization as a part of their program.
How is it used?
Completed in 2013, this degree allows for an in-depth and specialized look at a number of issues that clients and their children experience; issues related to learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and emotional disturbance.
